Darren O'Dea highlights what is remarkable about Celtic sensation Kieran Tierney

Darren O'Dea has praised Celtic left back Kieran Tierney.

Former Celtic defender Darren O'Dea has been quoted by The Scottish Sun as saying that he thinks Kieran Tierney has handled first-team football 'really well'.

18-year-old Tierney, born on the Isle of Man, joined his boyhood club Celtic at the age of just seven, and has made his way up through the ranks with the Bhoys.

The left back entered this season as a promising backup to Emilio Izaguirre, but Tierney has gradually become Ronny Deila's first choice, beating out the long-serving Izaguirre.

Now a Scotland international having earned his first cap against Denmark last week, and his superb performances throughout the season have earned great praise.

In fact, The Scottish Sun reported last week that Premier League side Southampton are keen to land Tierney this summer, having previously snapped up Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster and Virgil van Dijk from the Bhoys in recent years.

Now, former Celtic defender Darren O'Dea - currently with Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee - has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Tierney has the potential to have a 'fantastic career' having supplanted Izaguirre from the starting line-up.

O'Dea also suggested that Tierney's ability to play consistently at 18 is 'remarkable', and believes the left back is level-headed just from looking at him.

"He’s handled everything really well," said O'Dea. "I like him because he’s a seven or eight every week. He’s not doing anything remarkably special. But that’s the sign of a really good player at that age. He’s already got that in his game which is remarkable. I just know by the look of him — and speaking to other people — that he’s level-headed."

"He’s just made his Scotland debut in midweek and has the potential to have a fantastic career. When I went into the Celtic team, I was in and then I dropped out. But he’s kept a very experienced player like Izaguirre out of the first team which tells you how consistent he’s been. He’s doing it week in, week out so I imagine he’ll be quite a big player in years to come," he added.
