Barry Bannan reacts on Twitter to Van Dijk's performance, makes bold claim

The Sheffield Wednesday man was full of praise for the Southampton defender's display against Leicester.

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan was impressed with Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk on Sunday afternoon as he put on a good display against Leicester City.

And the Sheffield Wednesday man feels Van Dijk could play for any top-four team.

Indeed, Bannan tweeted during the Southampton - Leicester game:

Should 'top four' clubs agree, they may well bid for the Southampton defender this summer.

At the end of the day, though, the reality is that there is no longer a divide between the top four and others.

Southampton are as much a top-four chasing team as West Ham United, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Van Dijk has helped the Saints at the back immensely, just as the likes of Wes Morgan, Robert Huth, Danny Simpson and more have solidified Leicester's back four this season.

As for Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, the Owls travel to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night and are 11 points off top in the Championship - three points above seventh-placed Cardiff City and one above sixth-placed Derby County.
