Alan McInally backs Mick McCarthy to sort out swanning around Aston Villa stars

Villa are looking for a new manager after Remi Garde's departure.

Aston Villa are currently on the hunt for a new manager after a poor season from the club.

Remi Garde departed this week and Villa have already had Tim Sherwood as boss this season.

Plenty of names are being linked with the vacancy, with David Moyes and Nigel Pearson the current favourites.

But former Villa striker Alan McInally believes that Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy might be perfect for the job.

He told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday this weekend (02/04/2016) of his belief that McCarthy was the man for the job:

“I think whoever gets the job needs to be genuinely clued up on the Championship. Never mind trying to bring in Premier League football players.

“I think they need to be looking at the likes of Mick McCarthy. Somebody who will basically call a shovel a spade.”

McInally, who spent two successful seasons at Villa Park, also suggested that McCarthy would be the perfect man to sort out the players at Villa in a week which saw Gabriel Agbonlahor suspended by the club for his actions off the pitch:

“The players they have in there are swanning about like superstars.

“There was the story about Agbonlahor, disappearing to Dubai. You’re a football player at a football club that may be going down why put yourself in the firing line like that? It is just ridiculous. Absolutely crazy stuff.”

There is no doubt that McCarthy would crack the whip at Villa Park if he got the job and after a dreadful season the Ipswich boss might be perfect to cull a bloated and demotivated playing squad at Aston Villa.

Villa lost yet again in the Premier League yesterday, losing 4-0 at home to Chelsea.
