The midfielder was the star of the show for France during the recent international break.
The midfielder has been the star of the show for the Hammers this season since joining from Marseille, quickly becoming a key player in Slaven Bilic’s side.
He has now taken that onto the international stage, with his performances earning a call up by France manager Didier Deschamps for the recent international break.
He shone as well, with a 35-yard free kick in the win over Russia showing everyone catching the eye.
And Carragher says that his form shows the power that the Premier League currently has in attracting players.
“Another game, another stunning moment from West Ham’s maestro — his goal against Russia for France in midweek was sensational,” he told the Daily Mail.
“There is no doubt he will be on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award. It has been a joy to watch Payet play this season. Payet’s form also shows the strength of the Premier League.”
“It says everything for the power our clubs have that a club who have not traditionally been in the fight for the top four have a player who is so important to one of the major nation’s ambitions.”
The Hammers will now be hoping that Payet can continue his fine form for the rest of the season as they chase down a Champions League place.
They are currently chasing down Manchester City and Arsenal ahead of them and Payet’s star performances have been key to them being so close.
They will need him to continue in that vein as the season comes to an end, and his displays during the international break certainly suggest he has no intentions of slowing down just yet.
