Aston Villa squad is a disgrace this season, blasts Jamie Carragher

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

The Villains sacked Remi Garde this week after his disastrous reign in charge.

Jamie Carragher has labelled Aston Villa’s current stars a ‘disgrace’ who have a ‘shocking’ attitude, in comments to the Daily Mail.

The Villains are currently bottom of the Premier League and looking destined for the Championship next season that has seen them win just three times.

This week saw them sack second manager of the campaign as Remi Garde left the club following a dismal four months in charge.

He had failed to turn the club around since replacing Tim Sherwood in November, in what can only be described as a dismal spell in charge.

Much of the criticism has been labelled at the Frenchman, and owner Randy Lerner, but Carragher saying the players should come in for some also.

“For all the fury being aimed at Garde and Lerner, why is the squad getting off scot-free? They have been a disgrace,” he told the Daily Mail.

“That 6-0 defeat to Liverpool was as bad a performance as I have ever seen. The least you can do in such a position is run and tackle but they won’t even do that.”

“Villa have got the biggest problem you can find in football which is never looking like scoring and conceding too many, but, to make matters worse, they have got poor players with a shocking attitude.”

There is no denying that Villa’s squad has been a poor one this season, not only in playing quality but attitude also.

The most disappointing aspect has arguably been the response from the senior players, with the likes of Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards and Gabby Agbonlahor all failing to step up.

Indeed, how many remain at the club next season remains to be seen, with wholesale changes expected by all.
