Mamadou Sakho holding Liverpool back, claims Stan Collymore

The defender was not at his best in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is holding the club back, Stan Collymore has claimed on Twitter.

The defender is much loved among the Anfield faithful, with his all action type performances winning over their support.

However, Saturday evenings 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur saw the Frenchman at his worst as he put in a disastrous display riddles with mistakes.

It was reminiscent of his awful showing in the loss to Watford earlier in the season, in which he was criminally poor all afternoon.

And Collymore says that the much-loved defender is actually holding the Reds back despite what the Liverpool fans may think of him.

Sakho is certainly something of a conundrum among fans and pundits, with the opinion split on him entirely.

While there have often been displays like the one against Tottenham, he has similarly put in a number of impressive performances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Indeed, the German manager certainly fancies him with him having been a regular for him since he replaced Brendan Rodgers at the club.

He is also a regular starter for France, suggesting he must have some qualities, despite what Collymore may think.
