The West Ham co-owner has been discussing the Frenchman.
Payet has regularly scored from free-kicks this season, also netting a set-piece goal for France during the international break.
And Gold has no hesitation in putting the 28-year-old at the top of the world list.
Gold told the West Ham site in his 'From the Boardroom' column: "He has scored some memorable free-kicks for West Ham this season and then he does the same for his country.
"At the moment he is probably the best free-kick specialist in the world and right now teams will be be terrified about giving away a foul on the edge of the penalty box when they are playing against him. We certainly know what he is capable of doing from set-pieces."
After Gold's column, Payet scored again versus Crystal Palace but was unfortunate that his goal didn't lead to three points for the Hammers.
Next up for West Ham is a Premier League clash against Arsenal, where Payet will be able to showcase his quality against a player he has often been compared to this season - Mesut Ozil.
The Frenchman's talent is obvious and very much worthy of Champions League football. So can West Ham still qualify for next season's competition?
