Crocked Newcastle United 'keeper Rob Elliot backs Karl Darlow on Twitter ahead of crunch relegation tie

Karl Darlow Low Quality

Darlow will be in goal as Newcastle take on Norwich City.

Newcastle United have a crunch Premier League tie with Norwich City this afternoon, a fixture that could prove pivotal in the relegation battle.

Going into the game Newcastle were however dealt a big injury blow.

Perhaps one of their best players this season has been goalkeeper Rob Elliot. But he will not feature in the game. The Republic of Ireland international tore his anterior cruciate ligament on international duty and will be out of action for six months.

In his place will step former Nottingham Forest goalie Karl Darlow.

Tweeting before the game today Elliot, who himself was only stepping in for Dutch international Tim Krul after his serious knee injury, is backing the Toon number three to prove himself this afternoon:

Darlow has failed to fully convince during his time at Newcastle and certainly appears to be prone to an error.

However, Elliot appears to be backing the 25-year-old to thrive under the pressure of this massive game.

Norwich however will be given hope by Elliot’s absence. Expect Darlow to have his goal peppered by strikes throughout the game this afternoon.
