Writing on Paddy Power.com, Andy Gray has claimed that Norwich City will beat Newcastle United in this afternoon's relegation six-pointer at Carrow Road.
The Magpies, 19th in the Premier League table, travel to Norwich knowing that a victory would take them level on points with 17th-placed City, who have played a game more than their North-East counterparts.
Newcastle are yet to win under Rafael Benitez following Steve McClaren's sacking; losing narrowly to league leaders Leicester City on his coronation, before earning a come-from-behind point in the 1-1 draw at home to fellow strugglers Sunderland just before the international break.
Norwich held Manchester City to a goalless draw at Carrow Road last time out, and Gray feels that Alex Neil's boys are in the better form and backs them to move six points clear of Benitez and co today.
"The Canaries are in Newcastle’s target, but a win for them this Saturday would leave Newcastle in serious bother. Paddy Power has the draw at the same odds as Newcastle and the draw looks appealing," he wrote on Paddy Power.com.
"Norwich are in the better form after the draw against Man City and then winning before the break. Newcastle are still trying to claw them back into the fight.
"This is such a huge game for them and for the relegation scrap. I’m surprised it isn’t televised. But I’m looking at a home win which will move Norwich six points clear of the Magpies."
Given their game in hand, defeat for Newcastle would not spell disaster but it would make it significantly harder to preserve their top-flight status.
Not only can Newcastle give themselves three points tomorrow, but they can deny Norwich the same reward and that is why the clash could go a long way toward determining who stays in the division.
