Jeremain Lens has told the Sunderland Echo that Sunderland were unlucky to lose at West Bromwich Albion earlier in the campaign and with their recent improvement can be confident of winning this weekend.
The Baggies won the corresponding fixture at The Hawthorns 1-0 in Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge.
Since then, the Black Cats have improved in spite of their position in the Premier League table, and Lens is confident that his side can take all three points against Tony Pulis’s side this weekend.
“We were unlucky against West Brom earlier in the season and we have really improved in the last couple of months, so we have a good chance of winning this game and we’re confident,” he explained to the Sunderland Echo.
"The fans have been great home and away; they support us regardless of the result but we need to give them something to cheer about and get them off their season.”
Sunderland head in to their clash at the Stadium of Light currently occupying 18th position in the Premier League table, two points behind Norwich City but with a game in hand.
The Black Cats have been playing well recently, yet their vulnerability at the back has cost them with the club failing to keep a clean sheet in the league since a 2-0 win over Stoke City last year.
Sunderland have conceded late goals to drop points against both Southampton and Newcastle United in recent weeks, and Allardyce knows his side can’t afford to do the same in the coming matches.
West Brom currently sit safely in mid-table and with very little to play for at this stage.
