Arsene Wenger key to my Arsenal move, says Mesut Ozil

The German says everyone knows the Gunners boss is a phenomenal manager.

Arsene Wenger was key to Mesut Ozil joining Arsenal from Real Madrid, the player has told German media outlet Spox.

The German star arrived in England from the Bernabeu in 2013, with them paying a club record £42.5million for his services.

He has since shined in the Premier League, especially this season, as he currently sits on 18 assists and on course to break Thierry Henry’s record.

His transfer to the Emirates was something of a surprise one at the time, especially for the price that Wenger’s side paid, and Ozil admits that the Frenchman was key to him agreeing to the move.

“I would be delighted for Wenger if we win the title,” he told Spox.

“He played a major role in my decision to join Arsenal. He was desperate to sign me. Everybody knows he is an extraordinary manager.”

“He is always hungry for success, has a lot of experience and always takes his time for the players. He helps players develop.”

While Ozil fully backs Wenger, there is less support for him among the Arsenal faithful at present.

The Gunners have disappointed this season, now finding themselves 11 points behind leaders Leicester City as the season draws to a close.

With their rivals all struggling this season, many Arsenal fans believe that has been unacceptable as this was his best chance of ending their title drought.

Indeed, general opinion seems to have changed this season, with many currently believing he should end his long reign at the club by the season’s end.
