Robbie Savage explains what astounds him about Aston Villa fans

Carlo Ancelotti with Remi Garde

The pundit has been discussing the Villa faithful.

Robbie Savage says he has been astounded by the loyalty of Aston Villa fans this season, according to his regular column in the Daily Mirror.

Indeed, the Welshman feels Remi Garde was the Premier League's worst ever appointment and he is amazed at how committed supporters have remained while the Frenchman oversaw so many defeats.

The pundit also spoke of player behaviour at Villa Park, meanwhile, which has been letting the club down all campaign.

Savage told the Mirror: "The Villa fans’ loyalty has been astounding.

"Players who behave like that [referring to Jack Grealish and Gabby Agbonlahor] on holiday need to remember: It never looks good, especially when the team is losing every week - because it rubs the supporters’ noses in it.

"On and off the pitch, Villa have been a disgrace and Garde was a poor appointment: Wrong man, wrong time, wrong place."

Aston Villa host Chelsea during Saturday's early kick-off tomorrow and there is little hope of the Midlands side registering a run of results to at least appease their fans a little.

Work behind the scenes now - if it hasn't already - must be directed towards next season's promotion push in the Championship.

That said, Villa's loyal supporters would still no doubt love a win or two this season, if there is any chance at all of that actually happening...
