Report: Newcastle set to receive injury boost ahead of Norwich clash as Daryl Janmaat is expected to be fit for game

The defender had to withdraw from international duty due to a knee injury sustained last month.

Newcastle could be about to receive a significant injury boost ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with Norwich on Saturday as the Shields Gazette reports that Daryl Janmaat is likely to be fit for the trip to Carrow Road.

The 26-year-old had to be taken off during the Magpies' game with Sunderland just before the international break due to a knee injury, and subsequently withdrew from the Netherlands squad that took on France and England last month.

However, the Shields Gazette claims that he could well play against the Canaries in what promises to be a huge game for the complexion of the relegation battle in the top flight.

Currently, Rafael Benitez's men are three points adrift of safety while their opponents this weekend are the ones that occupy that coveted spot just above the drop zone, meaning that a defeat for Newcastle would see their survival hopes dealt a huge blow.

Like many of his teammates this term, Janmaat has been guilty of not playing to his potential this season. However, the lift that appears to have boosted Tyneside following Benitez's arrival has seemingly had a positive impact on the squad, so fans may start to see the best of the full-back in the coming weeks.
