Norwich City boss concedes concerns over Nathan Redmond

Norwich City’s Nathan Redmond is returning from injury.

Norwich City boss Alex Neil has told the Eastern Daily Press that he is unsure whether to risk Nathan Redmond for this weekend’s clash with Newcastle United following his recovery from injury.

The talented attacking midfielder suffered a right ankle injury during the 0-0 draw with Manchester City in mid-March and has been out of action since, only returning to training this week.

Speaking ahead of his side’s massive clash with Newcastle, boss Alex Neil said that he is concerned it might be too early for Redmond but the points at stake could prompt him to make a last-minute decision.

“Nathan (Redmond) is recovering from his ankle," Neil told the Eastern Daily Press. "He has joined back in and it will be a last minute decision whether he can play any part. I’m just a little bit concerned it might be too early for him.

"It’s one of those ones where do you risk him for this one but potentially lose him for others if it doesn’t go the way you’d like, or do you maybe delay it for a week and take it from there? We’ll monitor him on Friday and take that decision afterwards.”

The encounter with Newcastle doesn’t really come any bigger for Norwich, with just three points separating the two relegation-threatened clubs with Sunderland sandwiched in-between.

The Canaries have Premier League survival in their own hands following their recent 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion, considering both the Magpies and Sunderland have to visit Norfolk.

That said, the North East duo have improved of late and Rafael Benitez’s arrival at St. James’ Park will no doubt make the Tyneside club tactically stronger and arguably more motivated to stay up.

Redmond, 22, is a key player for Norwich having scored five and assisted two in 28 league appearances.
