Spurs are set to travel to Anfield on Saturday, for what looks to be a hugely important fixture in their season.
If the Lilywhites are able to pick up a victory they will close the gap on league leaders Leicester City to just two points, with the The Foxes not due to play until Sunday, but a defeat would provide Claudio Ranieri’s side with a chance to move eight points clear.
Tottenham have the added complication of not having their whole squad together in the build up to the fixture on Merseyside.
However, Keown still thinks that Spurs will be able to pick up a positive result against the Reds.
“We’ve all been so impressed by Tottenham’s young England players but it will be a challenge for them coming back to a title race,” the former Arsenal defender said. “They have to manage their energy levels and their emotions after being on such a high.
“Playing away from home makes that more difficult, especially at a ground like Anfield where Tottenham have an awful record (46 Liverpool wins and 8 Spurs wins). But the quality of this Tottenham team has enough to get a draw. If they don’t and Leicester, who have an extra day to rest, get a result on Sunday, then the gap at the top will become more and more punishing for them.”
When Tottenham and Liverpool met earlier in the season the match finished as a 0-0 draw, but both sides are in very different places now.
Spurs look a far more confident team than they did in October, and they go into the match at Anfield on the back of a strong results in the Premier League.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have improved considerably under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, and they will be hoping to keep their slim hopes of claiming a top-four spot alive by picking up the three points.
