Gary Mabbutt says Paul Gascoigne kept him on his toes at Tottenham

The former Tottenham skipper has been discussing the club and England legend.

Gary Mabbutt says Paul Gascoigne kept him on his toes when he was Tottenham Hotspur captain, according to Sky Sports.

Indeed, while picking his fantasy XI, Mabbutt included several former Tottenham players.

And he freely admits Gascoigne was 'one of the best.'

Mabbutt praised the playmaker's inteligence on the pitch, as well as his ability to turn the tide in a game through one or two moments of magic.

Mabbutt told Sky Sports: "I was captain when Paul arrived at Spurs and he certainly kept me on my toes. One of the most intelligent players on the pitch, he could see things so quickly and make things happen.

"If you were playing in a game when the team was not playing well and didn't deserve to win, he could grab the game by the scruff of the neck and turn it your way. He could make it happen. He used to control games and he was a funny character to have around the dressing room. One of the best."

Mabbutt also discussed the likes of Ossie Ardiles, Glenn Hoddle and Jurgen Klinsmann during their times at Spurs and it reminds you just how much talent Tottenham have possessed over the years.

It was a similar situation for West Ham United during Mark Noble's testimonial as the likes of Paolo Di Canio, Rio Ferdinand, Teddy Sheringham and more turned out at Upton Park.

The current Tottenham side is also full of talent, of course, and fans will hope Mauricio Pochettino can achieve plenty of tangible success to go with that talent.
