The 29-year-old striker has been dropped from the squad ahead of Saturday's visit of Chelsea while the club carries out an internal investigation into his conduct.
Villa announced on Friday morning that the long-serving striker would not play any part in tomorrow’s home clash with Chelsea after being dropped from the squad pending an internal investigation into his recent behaviour.
The 29-year-old was pictured partying and seemingly smoking a shisha pipe while holidaying in Dubai over the international break [h/t Daily Mail], leading to more unwanted headlines for the Premier League’s bottom club.
The incident comes amid a dismal campaign for the homegrown front man, who has made just 15 league appearances after suffering from a rash of injuries and missing a 10-game stretch following a “disagreement” with former manager Remi Garde.
He has only scored once in the process, netting in February’s 2-0 home win over Norwich City to end an 11-month goal drought, and it has now been six seasons since he last hit double figures in the top-flight.
The claret and blue faithful seem to have had enough of his lack of production and questionable commitment at his point, with Twitter awash with fans applauding the decision to axe the former England international.

Let's be honest it feels like Gabby has been suspended for the past 5 years anyway #avfc— Fan Of SB50 Winners (@MrMWB) April 1, 2016
Absolutely delighted Gabby is getting disciplined. They should use this as an excuse to terminate his contract if possible #avfc— Rossa (@rossac25) April 1, 2016
Gabby's suspension should hopefully give him the much needed kick up the backside that forced him to knuckle down and be professional #avfc— Lee Bickerton (@Lee_Bickerton) April 1, 2016
Please don't let Gabby's suspension to be some April Fools joke #avfc— Lee Bickerton (@Lee_Bickerton) April 1, 2016
Perfect chance to lay down law and signal a new era. If at all possible, I'd sack Gabby. Sale value is alot less than contract cost. #avfc— Kelt Smallpox (@BeefyBiffa) April 1, 2016
Hopefully the gabby situation means we can release him for free #Avfc— WeWantMoyes (@astonvilla05) April 1, 2016
Fingers crossed we won't see Gabby in a Villa shirt ever again #avfc— dogontribe (@dogon22) April 1, 2016
I really don't know how we're gonna cope without Gabby's 7 touches per half though #avfc— Kev (@Kevavfc1993) April 1, 2016
10 years at one club is usually celebrated ie Noble last week. However I bet I can't find one #avfc fan who wants Gabby to ever play again!!— Paul Hughes (@pdh86) April 1, 2016
It's been a downward spiral for Gabby for so long but this just about tops it off. He is no club legend to me. #avfc— Matt Lynch (@mattlyynch) April 1, 2016
