Three former players that Nigel Pearson could sign if he becomes the Aston Villa manager

The former Leicester City boss is the current bookies' favourite to replace Remi Garde at Villa Park.

Aston Villa are almost certain to go down this season, and have been tipped to appoint a manager with Championship experience.

Nigel Pearson is the current bookies' favourite, and could bring some of his old charges to Villa Park - starting with these three:

Ritchie de Laet (Leicester City)

One of Pearson's early signings during his second spell at the King Power Stadium, De Laet was sent to Middlesbrough on loan six months after his departure. Leicester's rapid ascent means they are likely to strengthen this summer, leaving the Belgian's future uncertain, while Villa could be in the market for a right-back, with Alan Hutton one of their high earners and Leandro Bacuna already thinking about life after the Villains.

Ben Hamer (Leicester City)

Villa's problems in goal are evident and with Brad Guzan set to enter the final year of his contract, the American could be moved on this summer. Hamer has found his first-team opportunities limited since he was signed by Pearson two years ago, though that has more to do with Kasper Schmeichel's form than anything else. The 28-year-old boasts vast Championship experience from his time at Charlton Athletic, for whom he made 77 second-tier appearances.

Tom Cairney (Fulham)

One of Pearson's former Hull City players, Cairney was a regular in the Tigers' first team prior to the 52-year-old's departure midway through the 2011-12 campaign. The creative midfielder has played for Blackburn Rovers and Fulham since then - registering seven goals and six assists for the latter this season. But the Cottagers are in serious danger of going down this season and relegation would make Cairney far more obtainable.
