The Sunderland midfielder will not play again this season.
The 19-year-old has featured 17 times for the Black Cats’ under-21s this season and he has been training regularly with Sunderland’s first-team. However, Robson has suffered a groin injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season, just when he and his teammates looked set to be crowned U21 Premier League champions.
That should still happen in Robson’s absence but it is a bitter blow for someone who has played such a vital role in their great form this season.
Speaking after the setback, Robson told safc.com, “It’s a nightmare to be fair. It’s never a nice time to get an injury but I have got to be positive and look towards next season.
“Next season is a massive season for me and hopefully I can come back fitter and stronger than I am this season.”
Sunderland have a number of exciting young players coming through the ranks right now and Robson will be gutted not to be able to make an impression in the coming weeks.
However, he will be fully focused on regaining his fitness and ensuring he can impress manager Sam Allardyce both during pre-season and beyond.
