The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has been linked with a big money move to the Emirates.
If he does arrive in the summer, he will provide competition for Francis Coquelin in the defensive midfield position in the side.
The Frenchman has made the role his own since breaking into the team last season, with many feeling he has been the player that Arsene Wenger’s side have been missing for some time.
So, does Xhaka represent an improvement on Coquelin? A look at the stats, courtesy of WhoScored, suggests that Coquelin is actually ahead of his potential rival.
|Season||Won Tackle per Game||Interception|
|Outfielder Block per Game||Fouls|
|Passing Accuracy||Dispossessed GAME|
Xhaka manages to come out on top when it comes to won tackles per game, posting 2.5 compared to Coquelin’s tally of 2.3.
He also wins on clearances, having posted 1.6 per game compared to the 0.8 managed by Coquelin, as well as just coming out on top when it comes to blocks per game.
However, the Frenchman then comes into his own as he posts better stats in interceptions per game, fewer fouls per game as well as being dispossessed less per game.
He also enjoys a better passing accuracy, registering a 89% accuracy compared to Xhaka’s 85%.
