Aston Villa are on the look out for a new manager following the dismissal of Remi Garde.
Ray Wilkins has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT, which was broadcast on 31st March, that Aston Villa should appoint David Moyes as their next manager.
Villa are on the look out for a new boss, following the dismissal of Remi Garde earlier in the week.
One of the favourites to land the job is Moyes, and Wilkins feels that the Scottish boss would do an excellent job at the Midlands club.
"I’m looking at a number of names down there, but if they all wanted it then David Moyes is the man," Wilkins said, when asked who Villa should appoint next. "He’s managed at Preston and Everton and was very good.
"But the problem they’ve got is would he want to go into the Championship, because that’s where they are going."
It has been reported by the Daily Mirror that Moyes would be prepared to manage Villa, even if they are playing Championship football next season.
The Claret and Blues are currently 12 points adrift of safety, with just seven games remaining in their league season - meaning that their relegation seems inevitable.
And Wilkins says that he feared the worst, when Villa sacked him and Tim Sherwood and then decided to appoint Remi Garde.
“I thought at the time Remi Garde wasn’t the right manager to go in,” Wilkins added. “They needed someone with Premier League experience. It was a massive, massive chance.”
Eric Black is currently set to take charge of the Villains until the end of the season, when the Midlands side are set to reassess their managerial situation.
