Sunderland are in need of wins as they battle relegation and face West Brom at the Stadium of Light this weekend.
Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell has described this weekend's clash with West Bromwich Albion as a must-win, as they look to haul themselves out of the relegation zone.
The Black Cats are two points adrift of Norwich City in the bottom three having played a game less, and Sunderland could do with getting maximum points on the board this weekend given that the Canaries face Newcastle at Carrow Road - meaning at least one of their relegation rivals are going to drop points.
Rodwell is quoted in the Northern Echo, saying: "It's a must-win game for us. With eight games to go, they're all cup finals now and we need to go for it all or bust to get to get three points on the board on Saturday. We've done nearly enough to win in the last couple of games, and hopefully we can get that victory now."
One of the problems for Sunderland has been their inability to keep clean sheets as they have surrendered leads in each of their last three matches - with all three ending in draws. The six points dropped in the process could prove vital come the end of the season. This time, the Black Cats need to hold on to a lead against the Baggies if they get their noses in front.
A win for them would really put the pressure on both Norwich and Newcastle. There is an opportunity for them to either at least put something of a cushion between themselves and Newcastle - who trail Sunderland by a point - or gain some ground on Norwich. There is of course the opportunity of both if the game is a draw at Carrow Road.
