West Ham reportedly considering summer move for Mati Fernandez

West Ham - Upton Park: Boleyn Ground

West Ham United are said to be impressed by the Chile international.

According to a report from La Tarjeta Blanca, West Ham United are interested in signing Fiorentina midfielder Mati Fernandez this summer.

The 29-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer of 2018 so he will not come cheap, but after being in and out of the team this season it may be time he moved on.

The latest report claims that West Ham are joined by Liverpool and Leicester City in their pursuit of the Chile international. However, his age may be a problem if Hammers manager Slaven Bilic decides to bring in younger alternatives in the close-season.

With Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini already on West Ham’s books their need for another creative midfielder is not particularly high, especially with Martin Samuelsen coming through the ranks, but if they qualify for the Champions League next season they will need all the experience they can get.

Fernandez has played 127 times for Fiorentina to date, scoring seven goals and providing 27 assists, while he has been capped 70 times for his country and has 14 goals at international level.
