Tottenham defender hopes to be back at next international meeting.

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen is determined to be back in action for his country for their Euro 2016 campaign.

The centre-back has been absent from the Belgian squad over the past week due to injury, with a knee problem forcing him to sit on the sidelines since late January.

He is a popular figure in the Belgian national team, with teammate Radja Nainggolan noting his absence ahead of this evening's match with Portugal.

Vertonghen responded to vow he will be back with the squad at the next opportunity.

He is not far off a return to action for his club either. The London Evening Standard reported a fortnight ago that he was on schedule to be in contention to feature this weekend against Liverpool.

Spurs have coped well in his absence, but would still dearly love to see him return to give their title chase a boost.

They are currently in second position behind surprise leaders Leicester City, who are five points clear with eight games to go.
