Report: Romelu Lukaku told Everton he could leave at the beginning of the season

The striker has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

Romelu Lukaku told Everton he would leave the end of this season if the club failed to secure Champions League football, reports the Mirror.

The Belgian has enjoyed a fine campaign in the Premier League this season, scoring 25 goals in all competitions.

18 of those have come in the Premier League as he competes with Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy at the top for the Golden Boot.

Recent weeks have seen his future come into question, with his father saying he wanted his son to join either Bayern Munich or Manchester United.

Lukaku then added fuel to the fire by saying that he wanted to be playing Champions League next season.

That is not going to come at Goodison Park, with Roberto Martinez’s side currently 12th in the table with just nine games of the season remaining.

And it now seems he had warned the club he would be leaving if they failed to finish in the top four this season, with the Mirror claiming he spoke to them at the beginning of the season.

The Blues are not keen to sell though and this summer could see them fighting to keep one of their prize assets once again, as they did with John Stones last season.
