Rangers defender James Tavernier discusses where Scottish Championship title would rank in career achievements

The right-back has been one of the standout players at Ibrox this season.

James Tavernier has told Rangers' official website that winning the Scottish Championship title and securing promotion to the top flight would be the greatest achievement of his career so far.

The 24-year-old has previously won promotion on two occasions - with Rotherham through the League One play-offs in 2014 and with Bristol City in the same division last year - but explained that helping the Gers get over the line this time around would trump both of those previous triumphs.

"I think this promotion will be the highlight because I have been a part of it all season," he told the club's official website.

"The play-off final and going through half the season with Rotherham was a big one in my football career but being at Rangers, being a Rangers footballer and to play the whole season and then win the trophy will be up there at the top."

As Tavernier hinted at, both of the previous promotion wins have come while he was on loan with the two clubs, so arguably some of the celebration would have been tainted by the fact that he knew that he was unlikely to be at the respective clubs when their Championship campaigns began.

However, that should not be a problem this time around. Mark Warburton appears to be building something at the club that is not only designed to get the team back at the top table of the Scottish game, but to also get them competing with the likes of Celtic and Aberdeen.

And having made 41 appearances in all competitions this season, it appears that Tavernier is one of the players that Warburton wants to help lead the side onto bigger and better things.

So while clinching the Scottish Championship crown may be the highlight of the full-back's career to date, it seems highly likely that there will be plenty more medals to factor into the equation in future.
