The former Wigan Athletic and Fulham midfielder was very impressed with Stones' against the Netherlands.
England took on the Netherlands last night at Wembley and were sent crashing to earth with a 2-1 defeat against the Dutch.
His slip led to the penalty with which the Netherlands scored the opening goal – the first goal England have conceded with Stones on the pitch in his international career.
His casual play had the typically nervous English football fraternity in a fit but one former Premier League star was less panicky.
Jimmy Bullard, who received three separate call-ups for England in his career but never earned an international cap for his country, was tweeting throughout the game last night.
He praised the Everton man’s display and suggested that Stones was in fact the man-of-the-match in the game:
Watch stones make us play tonight people this boy is so overlooked so good on the ball we need more centre halfs like him #wanttheballmore— Jimmy Bullard (@jimmybullard) March 29, 2016
All you's defence minded people sort yourselves out just have a look at the best team in the world barca have a midfielder at the back— Jimmy Bullard (@jimmybullard) March 29, 2016
Started by stones pure football— Jimmy Bullard (@jimmybullard) March 29, 2016
Na not havin it... we haven't won nothing shelling it for years we need him anyone can slip— Jimmy Bullard (@jimmybullard) March 29, 2016
Stones may have had his wobble once again but his class on the ball make him an intriguing option for both England and Everton.
Some people see it as unnecessary risk-taking, others as a sign of the Everton star’s ability.
Bullard clearly subscribes to the latter school of thought, and believes others should follow suit.
