Hull issue stern warning to Aston Villa over Steve Bruce approach

Hull City warn Aston Villa against a move for Steve Bruce as the Championship club bid for Premier League promotion.

A Hull City spokesman has told BBC that Aston Villa would be wise not to approach Steve Bruce over the vacant manager's position at the West Midlands club.

Remi Garde was fired by Villa on Tuesday night as the club look almost certain to be relegated, with the Villans rock bottom of the Premier League table, 12 points adrift of safety with just seven matches to go this season.

Being something of a specialist in promotion, Bruce has been linked with a switch to Villa Park for a number of weeks now (The Mirror), but a representative for the Tigers warned the Villa hierarchy that they should look elsewhere in their search to replace the Frenchman.

A spokesman told BBC: "No approach had been made nor would one be welcome."

By virtue of the fact that the Tigers are in the middle of a promotion push themselves, Hull's stance is spot-on.

At the moment, the last thing they need is speculation over the manager which could unsettle the playing staff at a vital time in the season.

Bruce's boys sit fourth in the Championship table, five points adrift of Brighton & Hove Albion in the second automatic spot, but Villa's hierarchy might well be hoping that City are not promoted to strengthen their chances of getting their man.
