The Blues' new signing could reportedly miss the rest of the season - without even kicking a ball since his move.
Kyle Lafferty's capture had many Birmingham City fans dreaming of a play-off place.
Lafferty scored seven goals for the Green and White Army in Euro 2016 qualifying, but after being used sparingly by his parent club this season, his loan to the Blues was designed to shake off any dust that had gathered in the meantime.
But according to a report in the Irish Sun, via the Birmingham Mail, the 28-year-old may not get a chance to do that.
It is claimed that Lafferty, who featured as a second-half substitute during Monday's win against Slovenia, suffered a groin injury at Windsor Park and is now awaiting test results to determine how long he'll be out.
Speculation suggests that a six-week lay-off is likely, meaning he would miss the rest of the campaign - barring perhaps the play-off final, should Birmingham get there.
And the fans have had their say on Twitter - with many of them not surprised in the slightest...
Nothing has been confirmed by the club or Kyle Lafferty himself, but I hope this article in the Sun isn't true. https://t.co/3a7JXZrJYb— BCFC Forever (@clinton_jc) 30 March 2016
