On Monday evening, Aston Villa confirmed on their official website that manager Remi Garde has left the club after just shy of five months in the job.
Villa sit bottom of the Premier League table with just three wins to their name this season, and now they are 12 points adrift of safety, relegation to the Championship appears to be inevitable.
With chief executive Tom Fox and sporting director Hendrik Almstadt already gone, French boss Garde has already gone despite only replacing Tim Sherwood as manager in November.
The former Arsenal player leaves Villa Park having won just two Premier League games, and the attention will immediately turn to who could replace Garde ahead of next season.
As fans took to Twitter to react to Garde's sacking, it was clear that one name was on the lips of many Villa fans - David Moyes. The former Everton and Manchester United boss is looking to get back into management having left Real Sociedad in November, and Villa supporters feel he is the right man for the job.
Fans also suggested that Garde was simply the wrong appointment all along, and Villa must now get the next appointment right if they are to mount an immediate push for promotion from the Championship next season.
Here are some of the reactions from Villa fans on Twitter after Garde's departure from Villa Park was confirmed on Monday evening...
Im so happy to see Gardè gone! Wrong manager! Really hope & pray we get a proper proven manager in now. I'd love to see Dyche or Moyes #AVFC— Chloe (@Chloe_Villa) March 29, 2016
An experienced manager who will give our younger players a chance is all I ask for. Remi Garde had (and did neither).#avfc— Holte End Villains (@AstonVillaHB) March 29, 2016
I liked Garde but bottom line is results or performances didn't improve under him ,right decision for him to go #AVFC— Alan Horan (@AlanH0101) March 29, 2016
If Moyes is interested then he has got to be number 1 to replace Garde #avfc— Chris Bedworth (@AVFCBedders) March 29, 2016
No sympathy for Garde, did nothing as manager, got easy ride too long. Players awful, but nothing to suggest he could change things. #avfc— Colin McGurn (@ColinMc70) March 29, 2016
Bye, Remi Garde. Yes, you somewhat had your hands tied but have underachieved too. Other experienced PL managers would've done better. #AVFC— Crippy Cooke (@Crippy4Villa) March 29, 2016
Feel sorry for Garde. Nice guy, possibly wrong club, definitely wrong time. Get Moyes in. Right experience, right club, right time. #avfc— James Wardle (@jamesmwwardle) March 29, 2016
Goodbye Remi Garde you took on a shambles and left with dignity. Good luck for the future!!— Andrew Ashburn (@AndrewAshburn) March 29, 2016
Now let's get Moyes! #avfc
Do you think Moyes is the man to replace Garde at Aston Villa?
