Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the Bournemouth wide man.
At first glance it is a surprising rumour, with the 26-year-old not exactly the star-name Spurs fans would have been hoping for, and one wonders if the player would follow a similar path to Kieran Trippier if he did arrive at White Hart Lane in due course.
Tottenham signed the right-back from Burnley last summer after he had been an ever-present for the Clarets in the Premier League in the 2014/2015 campaign. However, with Kyle Walker the undisputed number one in North London Trippier has managed just six league appearances this season.
The 25-year-old has still played a significant role, both domestically and in Europe, and his match-winning goal against Watford could yet prove vital. But his chances are limited at Tottenham and if Ritchie arrives he could suffer the same fate.
The winger has only missed one league match for Bournemouth this season, scoring three goals and providing six assists in 30 games to date, and it remains to be seen if he would really be a better option than the wingers already at manager Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal.
Still, it is a squad game and Tottenham have proved that this season, so if Ritchie wants to make the step up, a move to White Hart Lane is surely a no-brainer given their emergence.
