Following England’s recent 3-2 win over world champions Germany in Berlin, there has been a surge of optimism in regards to Roy Hodgson’s side’s chances of winning the upcoming European Championships.
With Italy, Spain and Germany all arguably not as strong as before, Nicholas feels the Three Lions could go far and suggested Giroud is a reason why he believes France will not pose much of a problem.
"Spain and Germany are both lacking that prolific No 9, a position where England have options, and while France are strong they've got their problems,” he explained.
"Karim Benzema is a top striker but I wouldn't have him anywhere near the squad with what has gone on and we all know Olivier Giroud goes off the boil too easily."
Giroud has been out of form since the turn of the New Year, coinciding with Arsenal’s disappointing collapse both in the Premier League and in the major cup competitions.
While the former Montpellier man found the net during France’s 3-2 win over the Netherlands last week, the Gunners man has a tendency to go missing when his side need him most.
With just 12 league goals this term, Giroud has not had the best of campaigns at the Emirates and many feel England’s Harry Kane has overtaken him as the number one striker in North London.
