Queens Park Rangers striker Conor Washington impressed on his home Northern Ireland debut.

Northern Ireland warmed up for this summer's European Championships by beating Slovenia 1-0 at Windsor Park on Monday night.

Michael O'Neill's side take on Germany, Poland and Ukraine in France this summer, and whilst they won't be expected to get out of the group, few thought they would even qualify for Euro 2016, and Northern Ireland should relish the underdog status again.

On Monday evening, O'Neill's men picked up a 1-0 win over Slovenia, and whilst keeping a clean sheet after Roy Carroll saved Milivoje Novakovic's penalty was a boost, the night belonged to Queens Park Rangers striker Conor Washington.

The 23-year-old was born in Chatham in England and hadn't even been to Northern Ireland before Monday's game, but qualified to play through his grandmother - and proved his worth to O'Neill with a superb goal, showing off his pace and power before slamming the ball low into the net.

Washington's arrival onto the international scene offers Northern Ireland another goalscoring option to take the pressure off Kyle Lafferty, and fans were certainly impressed with his performance.

Supporters took to Twitter during and after the game to react to Washington's display, suggesting that his performance has already guaranteed him a place on the plane to France.

QPR fans will be hoping that their January signing can now kick on and impress on the domestic scene, having earned such rave reviews from his international fans on Monday night...
