Accrington Stanley boss praises 'fantastic' Rangers signing Josh Windass

Rangers bound Josh Windass scored on his return for Accrington Stanley.

Young talent Josh Windass made a triumphant return to action for Accrington Stanley on Bank Holiday Monday after three months out injured.

The 22-year-old scored in a 2-0 away win over Newport County, to keep his side's play-off momentum going.

Windass is leaving in the summer, having signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers in January ahead of his deal expiring this June.

Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman was in no doubt as to Windass' quality, adding that he was just taken off late in the game as a precaution.

He told the club's official website: "It was a fantastic finish by Josh. You know what you are getting with Josh and we brought him off as a precaution although he said he felt fresh."

Rangers had attempted to sign Windass early and have him up there already, but Accrington resisted offers and can now reap the benefits of that until the end of the season.

Stanley are in fourth position in League Two, in the play-off spots, with the top three receiving automatic promotion. They are just one point back from third and three points behind second placed Oxford, who have played one game more.

Windass' next club Rangers meanwhile appear to be well on course to win promotion to the Scottish Premiership, and if he can go there leaving on a high, it will make the next chapter of his career that little bit easier.
