Report: Erik Lamela suffers injury on Argentina duty

Reports from Argentina suggest that Tottenham Hotspur's Erik Lamela has suffered a muscle injury.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Erik Lamela has suffered an injury on international duty with Argentina, according to reports emanating from South America.

The 24-year-old is reported by Argentine publication Rionegro to have encountered a muscle problem ahead of his nation's World Cup qualifier with Bolivia on Wednesday morning.

Lamela, who was an unused substitute in Argentina's 2-1 win over Chile on Friday, has started 22 of his 28 Premier League appearances this season, and Spurs fans will be sweating over his fitness.

If the report proves to be true, Lilywhites boss Mauricio Pochettino will be worried until the extent of the problem is determined, with title-chasing Tottenham due to face Liverpool at Anfield this Saturday night.

The North Londoners - who sit five points behind leaders Leicester City in second - have been wonderful this season, though all it takes is one injury to potentially disrupt what looks to be a solid balance at Tottenham.

Lamela, who has started six of their last seven league games, has looked a man reborn under Pochettino this season, having initially struggled to live up to his £25.8 million price tag following a switch from Roma in 2013.
