Former Newcastle United forward Micky Quinn said on the Weekend Brekkie show on talkSPORT on Saturday morning (broadcast from 7am, March 26) that Liverpool striker Christian Benteke has been lazy at times this season.
“He has been lazy at times, some of his runs, he just doesn’t suit the style,” said Quinn while discussing whether Benteke suits Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s style of football or not.
Benteke joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the summer of 2015.
The Belgium international arrived at Anfield with a strong reputation, but he is not having a great season.
The 25-year-old striker has scored seven goals and created 25 chances in 25 Premier League appearances for Liverpool so far this campaign.
Benteke has a pass accuracy of 67% and a shot accuracy of 45%, and has won 112 headers, 10 dribbles and four tackles.
The former Genk striker is not very mobile, and he does not suit Klopp’s high-pressing game. Perhaps Benteke will not be at Liverpool next season.
Liverpool are ninth in the Premier League table at the moment with 44 points from 29 matches.
The Merseyside outfit are seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City and have played a fewer game than Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
