Lothar Matthaus makes his opinion on Mesut Ozil known

Lothar Matthaus rates Arsenal and Germany international star Mesut Ozil highly.

Former Bayern Munich star Lothar Matthaus spoke highly of his German compatriot and Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil on ITV on Saturday evening (March 26).

In the build-up to the international friendly game between Germany and England in Berlin on Saturday evening (broadcast from 7:30pm on ITV), Matthaus was asked for his opinion on Ozil.

"I think Mesut is a fantastic player," said the German. "We miss him here and he is showing in England again his quality. I think he is the same player (as he was at Real Madrid). On a good day, he can make a difference in the game."

Ozil failed to guide Germany to a win against England on Saturday evening, but that should not detract from the fact that he is a superb footballer.

The Germany international is one of the most creative players in Europe and has been brilliant for Arsenal so far this season.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also play as a winger, has scored five goals and created 116 chances in 28 Premier League matches for the Gunners so far this campaign.

The former Real Madrid star has a pass accuracy of 87% and a shot accuracy of 67%, and has won two headers, 40 dribbles and 25 tackles.
