England head coach Roy Hodgson has told The Mirror that Everton defender John Stones should not make mistakes if he wants to play for a top club.
Stones is part of the current England set-up and is likely to be part of the Three Lions’ squad for the Euro 2016 finals in the summer.
“He needs to understand that as a centre half at a top club you can’t make a lot of mistakes, you have to cut out those mistakes,” Hodgson told The Mirror about Stones.
“But you don’t have to change your game and start booting the ball out of the field. It just means you have to improve all the time and cut out some of the mistakes.”
Stones is just 21 years of age and is considered as one of the most promising young defenders in the Premier League.
The England international centre-back is brilliant on the ball, but there have been occasions when he has made mistakes due to his inclination of holding onto it too much.
The youngster also needs to make decisions better and read the game more closely, but one needs to remember that he is still only 21.
Stones has shown signs that he is good enough to play for a top club, but for him to succeed there, he needs to cut out the mistakes he has been making for Everton this season.
