Report: Everton eye Manchester United’s Michael Carrick

The 35-year-old's contract is set to expire in the summer.

Everton are eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick in the summer transfer window, reports the Mirror.

The veteran midfielder is out of contract in the summer and has so far failed to agree a new deal to stay at Old Trafford.

Indeed, there currently seems to be no indication that he will be offered a new contract to extend his stay at the club.

Louis Van Gaal’s side have Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin also competing for the role Carrick occupies, meaning they could afford to lose Carrick.

And should he be allowed to leave, Everton are eyeing up a move for him on a free transfer and they are reportedly confident that a deal can be done according to the Mirror report.

A move for Carrick would certainly be an interesting one as he would add some much needed experience to their youthful side.

Currently Gareth Barry fills that role of experienced head in the side, but Carrick’s experience would be a welcome addition to that.

They would surely face a fight for his services though, with a number of sides sure to have similar thoughts about signing the 35-year-old.
