The goalkeeper was stretchered off in the 3-2 win over Germany.
The goalkeeper was selected to face Germany on Saturday evening after Joe Hart picked up an injury in the loss to Manchester United.
He was keen to impress as well, with this his chance to show his worth on the international stage after a notable season with Stoke City.
Things did not go to plan for him though as he picked up a leg injury in the first half, something that ultimately led to Germany taking the lead through Toni Kroos.
And Lineker and Ferdinand were quick to tweet about the injury and wish the ‘keeper well.
Real shame for Jack Butland. Hope it's not too serious.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 26, 2016
The knock is a disappointing one for Butland but it is certainly not the end of his international hopes by any means.
City stopper Hart is England’s undisputed number one and is sure to remain that way for a number of years but there should be chances for others in the future.
The City ‘keeper has hardly been infallible though, and if Butland continues to develop as he has this season then he will surely get more chances to impress.
