They head into that tournament in France quietly optimistic, with a number of English stars such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Ross Barkley and Jamie Vardy all currently flourishing in the Premier League.
Their break started in fine form on Saturday as well, coming back from 2-0 down away to the current world champions to win 3-2.
And tweeting during the game, Lineker has predicted that the national side are set for a very bright future after a disappointing number of years.
After a period in the footballing doldrums, England will be very competitive over the next decade.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 26, 2016
The one concern despite the positives was the defence as the central defensive pairing of Gary Cahill and Chris Smalling appeared to struggle.
Many are resting their hopes on Everton man John Stones to go alongside the Manchester United centre half as the ball-playing defender the Three Lions need.
And Lineker, along with Joey Barton. did admit that the defence is still the one area of the team that needs work.
Wonderful goal from Harry Kane. Just need to sort out the central defence. Need Stones to realise his potential. Ball player there is vital.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 26, 2016
Still think we need to sort out what is the best centre half pairing as that will cost us against better sides. But loads of positives.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) March 26, 2016
