Everton will let Mason Holgate go on loan to Barnsley in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.
It has been reported by the British tabloid that Everton hope to see the 19-year-old defender tested in the Championship next season.
The teenager, who can play as a centre-back or as a full-back, joined the Toffees from Barnsley in the summer of 2015.
Holgate has been playing for the Everton Under-21 side this season and is not part of Roberto Martinez’s first team.
Barnsley are playing in League One at the moment, but they are in the running to clinch a playoff spot.
If the Tykes do get promoted at the end of the season, then it would make sense for Everton to send Holgate out on loan to Oakwell to see how he does in the Championship.
Playing for a year in the Championship would make Holgate a better and stronger defender, and would prepare him for life in the Premier League.
