Everton are interested in signing Daniel Bentley from Southend United in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.
It has been reported by the British tabloid that Bournemouth, Norwich City, Watford and West Bromwich Albion are also looking at the 22-year-old goalkeeper.
The youngster’s current contract with Southend runs out at the end of the season, meaning that he would be available on a free transfer in the summer.
“The fee will be decided by tribunal if he moves without a contract as he was trained at Roots Hall as a youngster,” adds the report in The Sun.
Bentley is a very good and promising young goalkeeper, and with as many as five Premier League clubs (reportedly) interested in him, it seems unlikely that Southend will be able to hold onto him.
True, Southend could offer the 22-year-old a new contract, but would he able to resist playing for a club in the top flight of English football?
Phil Brown’s side are 12th in the League One at the moment with 55 points from 38 matches, just six points behind Bradford City, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.
