D.C. United have officially confirmed the signing of former Manchester City youngster Andrea Mancini.
The 23-year-old Italian midfielder, who is the son of former City and current Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini, joins the MLS club after featuring for them during preseason as a trialist and will be added to the roster pending receipt of his ITC and P-1 Visa.
"Andrea impressed us in pre-season with his technical proficiency and tactical understanding,” United general manager Dave Kasper told United’s official website. "We look forward to seeing him develop with the rest of our group."
Mancini initially began his career at Inter during his father’s first spell as manager before joining him at City in November 2010 following a brief stint with Bologna.
The Genoa-born attacker had loan stints at Oldham Athletic and Italian lower league side Fano during his time at the Etihad Stadium but never featured for the Premier League club’s first-team before being released at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.
He went on to spend one season in the Spanish fourth tier with Real Valladolid’s B team and later took in spells in Hungary with Budapest Honved and Szombathelyi Halidas, respectively, before becoming a free agent last summer.
While at City, he was also teammates with current DCU player Paul Clowes.
