Arsenal teenage talent used to imitate Alan Shearer, says uncle

Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi seems to be a fan of Alan Shearer.

Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi was a fan of Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer when he was growing up, the teenager’s uncle Emmanuel Okocha has told The Sun.

“When he was young he loved imitating the top stars back then like Alan Shearer and his uncle Jay-Jay,” said Okocha. “Football was his life from that time.”

Iwobi is just 19 years of age and is a versatile footballer who can play as a winger or as a striker.

The Nigeria international has done well for Arsenal so far this campaign, and he is likely to get more chances between now and the end of the season.

The teenager has scored one goal and created one chance in six Premier League appearances for the Gunners so far this term.

It will not be easy for Iwobi to follow in the footsteps of Shearer, who is one of the greatest strikers to have played in the Premier League, but he certainly has the talent.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is known for nurturing young players, and the Nigerian youngster is in good hands. It is up to Iwobi to make the most of the chances he will get in the coming weeks.
