Arsenal scout shares his first impression of Rangers loanee

Gedion Zelalem

Ibrox side Rangers signed Gedion Zelalem on loan from Arsenal in the summer of 2015.

Arsenal scout Daniel Karbassiyoon has spoken highly of Gedion Zelalem to The Independent.

Zelalem, who is just 19 years of age and plays as a midfielder, joined Scottish Championship outfit Rangers on loan from Arsenal in the summer of 2015.

Karbassiyoon has spoken highly of the USA Under-23 international and has sung his praises.

“I saw Gedion in a training session, and he was very different from what I am accustomed to seeing, from a typical player in the US,” the Arsenal scout told The Independent.

“Technically he was very, very gifted, he rarely looks like he’s under pressure and always has a way out. I hadn’t seen that in players in the US, his intelligence and awareness were on another level.”

Zelalem has not been a huge success at Rangers so far during his loan spell, but he has shown some encouraging signs of progress.

The teenager certainly has a lot of potential, and it is only a matter of time before he gets to play for the Arsenal first team on a regular basis.

The American youngster is talented and gifted, and in Arsene Wenger, he has a manager who knows how to nurture promising young players.

Perhaps it would be best for Zelalem if he goes on loan to a Championship club next season or to a mid-table team in the Premier League.
