West Ham's Dimitri Payet starred for France against Netherlands on Friday night.

France beat Danny Blind's Netherlands side 3-2 in Amsterdam on Friday evening in an entertaining encounter between two of the major European nations.

As the Amsterdam Arena mourned the death of legend Johan Cruyff, the Netherlands players couldn't give their fans a win as Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud fired France into an early 2-0 lead.

Luuk de Jong and Ibrahim Afellay found the net to make it 2-2, but Blaise Matuidi then struck in the dying seconds to hand Euro 2016 hosts France the win.

The game also saw playmaker Dimitri Payet handed a start, having been in outstanding form for West Ham in his maiden Premier League season.

Payet, 28, hadn't represented his country since June 2015 having played his part in a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Albania, but after hitting 11 goals and eight assists for West Ham, Payet earned a recall from French boss Didier Deschamps.

He didn't impress, serving up a performance much like we've seen during his time at West Ham, and he played the whole 90 minutes in an influential display.

Fans took to Twitter to react to Payet's performance, and it wasn't just West Ham supporters, as rival fans simply couldn't hide their admiration for Payet's showing, suggesting that his place in the Euro 2016 squad this summer is all but assured having played so well against Netherlands.
