Everton stopper Howard, 37, joined the club initially on loan from Manchester United way back in 2006, and has now gone on to make more than 400 appearances for the club as one of the Premier League's finest goalkeepers.
Unfortunately, age appears to have got the best of Howard recently, and he has struggled massively this season, with Toffees boss Roberto Martinez making Joel Robles his first-choice goalkeeper, relegating veteran Howard to the bench.
Last weekend, Everton confirmed on their official website that Howard is leaving Goodison Park this summer for a return to his native United States with Colorado Rapids, meaning Everton must now find a new long-term, first-choice goalkeeper this summer.
Now, the Liverpool Echo report that Everton are keen on Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, and could make a move for him this summer having sent scouts to watch him in action against PSV Eindhoven last weekend, where he kept his 14th clean sheet of the season.
Cillessen, 26, joined Ajax from NEC Nijmegen back in 2011, and has become the first-choice stopper for both club and country, even playing for the Netherlands in the 2014 World Cup semi-final against Argentina.
It's now claimed that Cillessen is being lined up for an ambitious summer move by Everton, with £10m possibly enough to tempt Ajax into selling their star goalkeeper - and he would undoubtedly become the Toffees' top goalkeeper if he did arrive on Merseyside.
Do you think Cillessen would be a good replacement for Howard?
