Struggling Aston Villa striker Jordan Ayew finally scores his first goal of 2016, with a fantastic lob for Ghana

The Ghanaian netted a sumptuous lob v Mozambique yesterday.

The international break must have come as a welcome distraction to Aston Villa players. The club are at the foot of the Premier League table and look set for relegation to the Championship.

One player who has been out on international duty is Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew.

He arrived at Aston Villa in the summer from French side Lorient and at times has been one of the bright sparks of the club’s season.

But recently, as with much of the Villa team, he has struggled for his best form.

In 2016 he has scored a grand total of zero goals for Villa, picking up one more red card than he has goals this year.

But Ayew was in action for Ghana yesterday and actually managed to find the back of the net.

The 24-year-old raced onto a through ball to lift a deft lob over the Mozambique goalkeeper from the edge of the box – with what was a fantastic goal from the player.

Villa’s season is effectively over but fans of the club will still hope that this strike can be the catalyst to end Ayew’s recent scoring duck.
