Several first team players could leave if they drop into the Championship.
This season has not exactly gone to plan for Newcastle United, who would have hoped they wouldn’t find themselves in another relegation battle.
That was built on a summer of spending, as Steve McClaren was given the funds to overhaul his squad to ensure they competed at the right end of the table.
It hasn’t gone to plan though, with many of those signings looking like poor investments for the money that was spent.
Still, should they go down there are several players that Premier League sides may look to poach.
The midfielder was secured from Swansea City in the January transfer window, havng enjoyed a fine first half of the campaign in Wales.
Indeed, his performances earned him an England call up with the former Liverpool man impressing when given the chance in Roy Hodgson’s squad.
A strong start at St James Park soon fizzled out, but there is no denying his quality and he would certainly suit a host of clubs.
Wijnaldum has arguably been the one bright spark in an otherwise dismal campaign for the Magpies.
The Dutchman has shown his class throughout, with nine Premier League goals making him their top goalscorers this season.
He may have struggled away from home but there is no denying his quality and he could be a huge hit for any club willing to take the gamble.
The youngster has not enjoyed as fine a second campaign as his first, but six goals is still a decent return from the Spaniard.
That first season though showed his abilities as he bagged seven last year and was linked with moves to a number of clubs, namely Manchester United.
The ability is certainly there and at just 22-years-old, he could be a perfect long-term investment for a number of teams.
